STEELSET

SteelSet is my ongoing side project, Its a mobile app built for tracking gym sessions in a structured but flexible way. It's designed for people like me who want to log sets, reps, and weights without getting bogged down in bloated fitness apps.

scope of work

I started with the core idea, users should be able to create routines, log workouts, and see progress over time, SteelSet lets users manually build routines or pull from community-created ones. Tracking is at the heart, but I also began exploring possibilities for wearable support and stat visualizations.

development

Built in React Native with Expo Router, Zustand, and Supabase,

The backend of the app is Supabase, they offer Authentication and Database services, just what i needed, i designed a database schema that would be flexible and clean enough that repetition inside the database is to a minimum.

For users to see how they are progressing i developed a quick stats board that compared their previous session to the newest session, to see if they lifted more volume and reps.

challenges & solutions

Making the database schema flexible enough to handle templates, custom routines, and real-time updates without syncing errors took some iteration. I ended up decoupling templates from routines entirely and used Supabase triggers to maintain data integrity.

Outcome

SteelSet is in active development, and Im waiting to publish it to mobile app stores to use it personally for my own training. I feel it would help me identify weak spots in my UI logic and backend structure while also getting me real feedback from casual gym-goers to improve the app in ways that I couldn't have thought on my own. The next steps include beta testing and WatchOS integration.
